A short AI news post, written 17 October 2026. Everything below comes from Grok Bot's official announcements and help pages on that date. Details can change, so check the sources at the bottom before relying on anything.

On 16 October 2026, the official Grok Bot account on X announced a bundle of improvements to Grok Bot. Grok Bot is the AI helper from SpaceXAI (the company behind Grok, formerly known as xAI) that works on its own computer and carries out tasks for you, with your approval.

None of these changes is earth-shattering on its own, but together they make Grok Bot quicker and easier to live with. Here's what's new, in plain English, and what it means for you.

A quick reminder: what is Grok Bot?

Think of Grok Bot as an assistant that can actually do jobs rather than just chat about them. It can read and draft emails, look things up, fill in web pages and keep an eye on things for you, asking before it does anything it can't undo. I explained one of its earlier features in Grok Bot Gets Its Own Email Address.

What's new in the 16 October update

1. It's much faster

The announcement says computer tasks (the jobs where Grok Bot uses its own browser and desktop) now finish 3x sooner on average, and replies to everything else arrive in less than half the time. That's the company's own figure, so your experience may vary.

2. A fresh look

The app has a refreshed design with a new typeface and themes, and the cards that appear in chats (things like approval requests and email drafts) have a cleaner layout.

3. Better voice calls

Voice calls with Grok Bot are described as faster, more reliable and better at remembering past conversations. If you missed it, I covered the voice model behind them in Grok Voice 3.0 Explained.

4. Notifications only on the device you're using

If you use Grok Bot on both a computer and a phone, notifications now go only to the device you're using, rather than buzzing everything at once.

5. It can read your X Chat messages

X Chat is the private messaging part of X. Once you connect your X account, you can ask Grok Bot to work across your messages, for example to help you keep on top of a busy inbox.

6. Tag @bot on X to start a job

You can tag @bot in a post or reply on X, and your Grok Bot picks that post up as a task. @bot replies publicly with a short confirmation, and the actual work and results stay in your Bot's chat in the Grok Bot app.

Important for UK readers: the official help page says tagging is not yet available for X accounts based in the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway. It goes by the country X has on record for your account, so a VPN won't change it.

7. More apps it can connect to

Grok Bot can now connect to Robinhood, Coinbase, Trello, PostHog, beehiiv, eToro and more. Teams can also now submit their own connectors to the Grok Bot marketplace.

8. Email plus aliases

Grok Bot's own email address now supports "plus aliases" (an address with an extra tag added after a plus sign). That means you can set up a routine that only runs on mail sent to one particular address.

Why would you use these?

  • Less waiting. The speed boost is the change most people will notice day to day.
  • Fewer pings. Notifications on one device are handy if you get distracted easily.
  • Tidier messages. If X Chat gets busy, the Bot can help sort and summarise it.
  • Organising jobs. Connecting something like Trello lets the Bot help with to-do lists and planning boards.

How to try it

  • Speed, new look, voice and notifications: these are improvements to Grok Bot itself. Keep the app up to date and you should get them.
  • X Chat: connect your X account in Grok Bot (via Connect apps), then ask your Bot to help with your messages.
  • Tagging @bot (where available): the official steps are to connect your X account to your Grok account on grok.com (Settings, then Account, then Connect next to X Account), have Grok Bot access on that same account, and have at least one Bot of your own.
  • New connectors: open Connect apps in the Grok Bot sidebar, find the app and choose Add, then sign in when asked.

What does it cost?

The announcement doesn't mention any new prices for these features. Grok Bot itself is a paid product, available through plans such as The X Subscription, SuperGrok and Cursor. The official help page says tagged @bot requests start work automatically and use your Grok Bot usage, so they count towards your plan's allowance. Check your own plan before you lean on it heavily.

Limits worth knowing

  • Tagging isn't available in the UK or EU yet, as above.
  • @bot stays quiet if the post (or the one you're replying to or quoting) has a video or GIF, if it also tags @grok, if it doesn't pass moderation, or if your weekly usage is used up.
  • Only your own Bots can take tagged requests, not ones someone has shared with you.
  • "3x faster" is an average quoted by the company, not a promise for every job.

Privacy and safety notes

  • Tagging @bot is public. Your post and @bot's reply can be seen by others, so never put personal details in a post you tag.
  • Your Bot sees more than your post. The help page says it receives your post, the post you replied to and any post either of them quotes, including photos.
  • Think before connecting messages. Letting an AI read your private X Chat messages is a big step. Only connect it if you're comfortable, and remember other people's messages are in there too.
  • Be extra careful with money apps. The new list includes investment and crypto services. Grok Bot's changelog says that after a bank or brokerage connector returns data, the Bot asks before sharing it anywhere else, but you should still read every approval request carefully before saying yes.
  • AI can get things wrong. Check anything important before you act on it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to do anything to get the speed boost?

The announcement doesn't list any steps. Keeping Grok Bot updated is the sensible thing to do.

Can I tag @bot from the UK?

Not yet, according to the official help page checked on 17 October 2026.

Does connecting X Chat cost extra?

No extra charge is mentioned in the announcement. SpaceXAI has said paid Grok Bot users get free X API credits to start when they connect X.

Is Paul affiliated with xAI or SpaceXAI?

No. I'm not affiliated with xAI or SpaceXAI in any way, and nobody's paying me to write this.
